Chassis 1266.9
Nearly two weeks ago now, I was contacted by another club member in the USA to tell me about a Unipower GT that he had seen for sale, being advertised on the Car & Classic website. On looking at the advert it was plain that the description given to Reg No: UCA 448D (Chassis 1266.9) was in fact that of another Unipower GT, namely Chassis 766.2.
As described it claimed to have been delivered new to Emlyn Newman and raced extensively across the UK and Europe before competing in the Nurburgring 500kms and the Barcelona 12 hours in addition to it being the factory development chassis and 'works' competition entry. All of which relates to Chassis 766.2 and NOT Chassis 1266.9.
On contacting Car & Classic, it would seem they they had used the description received from its current owner. Now I know its owner and on speaking with his agent, was told that they had just passed on the pack of details given to them as being the car's provenance, when they purchased the car back in 2020. He was understandably shocked to hear that the car had been misdescribed but maintained that the description used had been that provided by the seller when they purchased it. If true and I've no reason to doubt its current owner, its previous owner had deliberately misdescribed the car in an effort to enhance its provenance.
The advert in Car & Classic/Dynamic Classics was immediately taken down, but given the way that Google search finds previous webpages and for the avoidance of doubt, supporters of the marque and any prospective purchasers should be aware that Chassis 1266.9 , UK registered as UCA 448D (as pictured above) and as described at that time (mid-August 2025), was that of another chassis, namely Chassis 766.2.
Chassis 766.2 was one of the three factory Competition GT 'works' entered chassis and whose chassis design differed fundamentally from that of all the Customer Competition chassis'. In addition the 'works' cars when campaigned in International races, were never fitted with the wider rear clamshell, made available to Customer cars and not homologated for International racing.

Chassis 766.2
No doubt Chassis 1266.9 will be advertised again, this time I am sure with a correct description after which hopefully it will find a home where it will be returned to competitive use again.
