The Cornish Unipower GT Restoration - Part 18 complete (and final at last !)

Many of you will have been following on these Blog pages, Guy's restoration of the car he bought back in 2020 and its journey to being the very best example of the marque on the road today. It has taken a huge comittment from Guy, many heartbreaks along the way due to previous repairs and poor 'restoration', but now it has eventually reached its conclusion and has been driven !.

The objective was always to restore the car to the same condition as it would have left the factory, down to the correct nuts & bolts, although the odd sympathetic improvement has been added to make ownership life easier, only detracting in a very minor way from the original cars design when it came to extreme cost of reproduction.

So after 6-years in restoration, a few new body panels (taken from the origonal Factory moulds) and a totally restored original chassis, (and countless hours on the phone in discussion on how does this and where can I get that ! ) it is now ready for Guy to drive around the roads in Cornwall and pay homage to his father Geoff's car that he had bought and collected from the factory in late 1969, being the very last complete Unipower GT to leave the factory.

Geoff would 7-years later, the car having done 0-miles, sell that car (see pictures below) to myself and in which I enjoyed over 4,000 trouble free miles over the subsequent years, even entering it into the Brighton Speed Trials on one occasion, as well as it being displayed on the Unipower GT Owners Club stand at National Classic Car Shows.

As a homage to his late father, the car is painted the exact same two-tone factory colours (Amber/White) as was specified, indeed this was the only two-tone car ever painted thus by the factory.

I think you will agree that this is now a superb example of the marque and will remain a testament to the timeless design of the Unipower GT that Ernie Unger and Val Dare-Bryan had concieved back in the mid-60's. A huge vote of thanks must also go to Guy for his undiminished rersolve to ensure that everything has been done so as to be factory correct.

Still on its origonal registration number ROR 99G, if you are ever down in North Cornwall, you may indeed see the rare sight of chassis UWF 1005 back on the road again.
