LTM 80G's continued rebuild following its recent crash in Denmark

Considerable progress is being made on the crashed chassis, however the damage has unearthed some potentially disastrous chassis failures, unrelated to the accident, but a consequence of age and lack of inspection and remedial work as can be seen in the following pictures. The cracks where a number of chassis tubes junction, are in one case most likely just that the chassis is now 56-years old and its previous ownership history has shown that it has not been stored in the best of environments during its long life. The other looks like an attempt to weld the failure with an Arc welder has not resulted in a good weld and its failed again. Mostly fatigue failures and nothing that cannot be corrected as Michael is doing, but he's just pleased the problem has been spotted at this point.

A gentle reminder to Owners out there to take a look every so often at the chassis to check for such fatigue failures.

The frontal chassis repairs are almost now complete, with most of the area forward of the footwell having been carefully reproduced.

Bodywork wise, it was felt that the crash had destroyed the frontal body area sufficiently, that repairing it would be very time consuming. So following a discussion with myself, Michael made the journey to Cornwall where he collected all the spare bodywork that had been removed from Guy's restoration (an almost complete car's body having been reproduced using my ex-factory moulds) so that they could graft these onto his car, with a few modifications for extended wheel arches etc... As you can see, this work is progressing, but still lots to do.

More on its progress towards returning to the track in 2026 as it happens on this Blog.

Huge thanks to Michael for his photographs shown in these Blogs.

Really pleased to have been able to help Michael and team on their journey (not least all the way to Cornwall from Denmark!). We need owners like Michael showing dedication to the brand! Further thanks to Gerry for helping here too!!

If you've got a Unipower sitting in your garage collecting dust, please get restoring..... we need more on the road.....
