Jim Biscoe who recently acquired the ex-Duncan Charlton Unipower GT that had been racing in the USA for a few years, gave the car its first outing in the Spring Classic 2024 on the 25th May at the Mont-Tremblant Circuit near of Quebec, Canada northwest of Montreal.
Qualifying 13th for the race out of a field of 21 cars, I hope to hear back from Jim soon as to the final result, but thought I'd mention this significant event sooner than later.
For the record, the first time that a Unipower GT was raced at Mont-Tremblant was on the 22nd October 1967 when Paul Richards & Allen Hickling in Chassis 867.23 finished 3rd in the Les 6 hrs U.S.A.M. du Circuit completing 160 laps of the 2.65 mile course.
Later in September of 1968, Chassis 768.42 driven by Claude Desaulniers, took part in the CASC Championship du Quebec Alitalia Class B Round 5 at the Grand-Prix Player's du Canada, finishing all 10-laps of the race. Unfortunately obtaining the final result sheets of the race have eluded me, but a race report confirmed it completed the race.
In 1969, Kris Harrison/Bob Barrell competed at Mont-Tremblant in the CASC Quebec Region Championship Alitalia in Chassis 867.23 with Ecurie Canada, qualifying 27th out of 29 cars, but failed to finish the race.
The final occasions that a Unipower GT competed at Mont-Tremblant was during 2009 when driven by its owner Claude Houde, Chassis 768.42 finished in 8th and 5th places in a couple of races that year.
Good luck to Jim and we look forward to hearing more of Jim's racing in his Unipower GT as I believe he also has plans to race in the USA in 2024.
Good to see it on track!
