One of our American members has been out racing her Unipower GT
Kelly Wittenauer has been continuing her racing campaign recently along with the family Mini race cars. Kelly's 1968 Unipower GT ran great a couple weekends ago at Grattan with the VSCDA.
As Kelly reports : We pushed it off the trailer a few days ago and went to fire it up, no joy. Worked on it yesterday to find that all four cylinders had low compression. A squirt of oil into a cylinder and compression reappeared, so likely worn or stuck piston rings. Tear down in progress. Cylinder head checks out fine. Lot of work to do this week to get 'er back "On the grid" for the Put-In-Bay meeting at Grattan.

On race day for the Race C Heat it was dry until just after we left the grid with raindrops accumulating half a lap before the green flag, on the 2nd of 2 pace laps and we were on slick tyres !. That sealer on the track becomes quite slippery in the wet!.
The start was a bit of a cluster F**k as I think someone ahead may have missed a shift at the green flag. I've skipped the final 3 laps on the video, as they were under full course yellow, for extraction of the red Mini stuck in the mud near Pit In.
Regular visitors to our Blog pages will have seen that Kelly's husband John, purchased a road version of the Unipower GT and is well on its way to being converted to race alongside Kelly's customer competition version. More on this as John progresses with the build.
In the mean time, we wish Kelly the best of luck with her racing and flying the flag for the Unipower GT and the Club in North America.
